Biography

José Otero was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1979.

He lives and works in Berlin since 2003.

After finishing his Bachelor of Arts in the University of La laguna, he has taken part in many collective exhibitions, both at a national level and abroad ("Junge Talente aus Spanien" at the Cervantes Institute in Germany, Certamen INJUVE07 in Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid,  Canary Islands Biennial, Dakar Biennial...) He has also carried out five solo exhibitions in the last three years, the most significant of which was "...eppur si muove", at the Tenerife Contemporary Art Hall. A monographic catalogue containing 115 pages about the artist was edited for the ocasion.

The artist´s work is included in a variety of public and private collections (Collection of the Madrid Community, CAAM Collection, the Collection of the Canary Islands Government, Mapfre Collection) and is represented by various national and international galeries: 100 Kubik (Germany), Tercer Espacio (Madrid) and Saro León (Las Palmas, Gran Canaria). He frecuently writes about theoretical issues in catalogues and other art related publications, such as "Neutralizados". He has also been updating his blog C H O C A O and writes fiction literature.
